Within weeks, millions of Australians will receive the first of two cost-of-living payments.
A one-off $250 cash payout for needy Australians was a crucial element in last Tuesday’s federal budget.
The payment is available to about six million Australians, including pensioners, carers, veterans, job seekers, qualifying self-funded retirees, and concession card holders.
The payment was supposed to be rolled out this month, according to the budget, but Services Australia now says the first payments will be paid on April 28.
However, it adds that the date is subject to regulation.

Even if you’re eligible for one of the payments above and have a concession card, you’ll only get the $250 payout once.
