Will Smith Facing a Ban From the Bad Boys Franchise After Oscars Slapdown

Following Will Smith’s slapping of Chris Rock during the Oscars ceremony, work on Bad Boys 4 has apparently been put on hold.

Before presenting Questlove’s Summer of Soul with the prise for Best Documentary Feature, Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s Oscars outfit, comparing it to Demi Moore’s GI Jane.

While the rest of the audience laughed at the situation, Smith was not amused after seeing his wife’s reaction.

During the live show, the actor stepped up on stage, slapped Rock in the face, and twice warned the comedian, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth.”

Viewers were taken aback by Smith’s refusal to be hauled out of the Dolby Theatre after attacking Rock, and many were turned off by his acceptance speech for winning the Best Actor Oscar less than an hour after the event.

After being slapped, Rock refused to press charges, but The Academy launched a formal investigation into the matter.

Smith apologised to the Academy and to Rock on social media the next day, and he just announced his decision to leave from The Academy.

There have been numerous updates this week surrounding Smith’s notorious Oscars slap, and it now appears that his actions are beginning to harm his future endeavours.

As a result of Smith’s incident with Rock at the Oscars, work on Bad Boys 4 has been delayed, according to THR.

This announcement comes on the heels of Smith’s Academy Award resignation, so it’s unclear whether Smith’s decision will assist the film get back on track.

17 years after the release of Bad Boys 2, Bad Boys for Life was released.

Bad Boys for Life garnered generally excellent reviews, and due to its release prior to the start of COVID-19, it also became one of the highest-grossing films of 2020.

Sony confirmed that Bad Boys 4 is in development shortly after the film’s release.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed the script was being written in May 2020, which was the most recent major update.

Since then, it appears that substantial progress has been made, with THR reporting that Smith was handed 40 pages of the Bad Boys 4 script to read.
