Brisbane Man Dies After Ex Pours Petrol on Him and Sparking a Horrific House Fire

After his former partner allegedly doused him and his new girlfriend in petrol and set them both on fire, a young Brisbane father died from horrific burns.

Stanley Obi, 33, died tonight from his horrendous injuries as Queensland Police investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire at his New Beith home near Logan in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Mr Obi was allegedly the victim of a suspected domestic violence attack by his ex-partner, Sarah Mudge, 31, who is accused of breaking into his home and “throwing petrol everywhere” before setting him alight.

The couple was estranged and had previously applied for domestic violence orders against one other, while custody proceedings involving three children were in the works, according to police.

Ms Mudge was also killed in the fire on Thursday morning, although officials had problems finding her body due to the wrecked home’s precarious structure.

Her body will be autopsied in the near future.

Mr Obi is claimed to have had serious burns covering 90% of his body, and police confirmed his death at 10 p.m. Sunday night, 17 hours after he was hurt.

Three children, ages five, three, and two, were able to escape the fire, while a 30-year-old lady, believed to be Mr Obi’s new spouse, also escaped with minor injuries.

The couple had only recently moved into their new home on Bidyan Boulevarde.

On Thursday, police were awaiting word from Mr Obi’s new partner, while the children were to be examined by the child protection and investigative section.
