Victoria continues a “Perfect” COVID-free streak one week out from eased restrictions

Victoria has reported no new COVID-19 infections or deaths on its sixteenth consecutive day.

After more than 8,300 samples were processed over the 24-hour reporting period, the Department of Health and Human Services reported the outcome on Sunday.

The number of unknown cases also fell to zero-down from one on Saturday-while three active cases remain in the state.

The death toll for Victoria from the virus is 819, with the national number at 907.

“What we need to do is make sure we have that biggest buffer possible before we take really big steps towards opening up, because it does serve that purpose,” Premier Daniel Andrews said on Friday.
