Melbourne woman cops COVID fine after driving 75km for a kebab

A Victorian woman has copped a coronavirus fine of $1652 for travelling 75 km to get a kebab.

Overnight, Victoria Police issued 171 penalties to individuals who violated the orders of the Chief Health Officer, including 31 people who refused to wear a face mask, and 67 for violating the curfew.

One woman was stopped during curfew at Greaves Street in Werribee, and was asked what she was doing by the police.

She told them she had driven to Melbourne from Geelong to buy a kebab and then went back to Werribee to see her boyfriend.

The woman paid $1652 in fines.

Also a man was fined during the curfew after he was found cycling on Dorcas Street in the CBD.

He told officers he was visiting his “semi-intimate partner”.

Also at 2 am two women were caught eating ice cream in the street and told police they believed it was 6 am.

The Department of Health and Human Services reported on Tuesday that in the last 24 hours there have been 55 new cases.

Eight more deaths have also occurred, raising the death toll of the State to 683.
