Five Australian doctors found safe after going missing in the outback

UPDATE: Five people reported missing in the Northern Territory outback have been located safe and well.

It is believed the group took a wrong turn after leaving Alice Springs over the weekend to meet friends at a Ruby Gap campground, 150 km east of the town.

“(They) ended up driving 5km in the dry river bed of Hale River before their vehicle became bogged,” NT Police said after they were found on Monday.

The group undertook an aerial search which included Gabrielle Freedman, 29, Shagun Narula, 27, Haydn Dodds, 29, Renae Walker, 31 and Jessica Kolic, 29.

Saturday they left Alice Springs at about 5 pm.

A Ross Highway, Stuart Highway and Binns Track aerial search began Monday at first light.

It is understood the group are Northern Territory medical professionals.

Police said they had concerns about the group’s welfare since it is unknown what provisions they have with them.
