Melbourne anti-lockdown protests: Conspiracist James Bartolo arrested

A COVID-19 ‘conspiracy theorist’ has been arrested in Melbourne following a video showing police breaking his door down.

On Friday morning, bodybuilder James Bartolo posted a live video to Facebook, showing numerous police officers knocking at his door saying they had a search warrant on them.

At least three officers are asking Bartolo to open the door before pushing its way inside.

“You’ve rocked up. I was on the toilet, I’ve just gotten up,” Bartolo says from his balcony in the video.

One officer tells him to come downstairs immediately and to be there for the supposed incitement of a protest.

One officer threatens to smash the door in after he refuses to show up.

Bartolo then tries to sprint downstairs and the officers are quickly tackled to the ground.

Police can be heard saying “stop resisting” in the video.

Victoria Police said the arrest was made following “an ongoing investigation into the organisation and encouragement of protest activity in the CBD this Saturday.”

“As a result of the search warrant, police seized several devices including a mobile phone and laptops, as well as five samurai swords.

“A 27-year-old male who was arrested at the address has been charged with incitement, possession of prohibited weapons and two counts of resisting police.”

He has been bailed to appear at Sunshine Magistrates Court on May 5.
