On Victoria’s iconic goldfields, you might think there isn’t much gold left to uncover.
Yet after digging a fortune near Tarnagulla, west of Bendigo, those Aussie blokes are claiming otherwise.
Brent and Ethan have uncovered not just one but two giant nuggets of gold.
The combined nuggets weigh three-and-a-half kilos-and are worth $350,000 at current gold prices.
They could also get up to 30 per cent extra if they’re sold to a dealer.
“I thought we were in for a chance,” Brent said.
“It was in a bit of virgin ground, which means it’s untouched and hasn’t been mined.
“We pull the material out and put it up on the surface – and then we push it out very thinly and we detect it that way.
“We can recover more gold that way, and it’s a better way to do it and a safer way to mine.”
Over the past four years, Ethan says he’s probably picked up “thousands” of pieces of gold.
“These are definitely one of the most significant finds,” Ethan said.
“To have two large chunks in one day is quite amazing.
“But for small pieces, I’ve picked up thousands. I’m very lucky like that.
“It is not a feeling you can describe,” Paul said.
“It is something you never forget.
“It’s a sense of relief and achievement and accomplishment.
“It is a feeling like no other.
“Nobody has seen these pieces of gold for millions of years and we’re the first people to lay eyes on them.
“It is something that we love doing.”
