Senior members of the Victoria Labor Party reportedly expect Daniel Andrews to step down as prime minister before the upcoming 2022 state election.
But ALP powerbrokers in Australia reports are willing to allow Mr Andrews to choose the timing of his resignation, preferably once Victoria has resolved the worst outbreak of coronavirus.
“We want the virus under control and a clear strategy to take the state forward,” one MP told the newspaper.
“There is no point leaving while the place is on fire.”
The newspaper said the Premier ‘s departure in the first half of 2021 was most likely to occur.
