There are few things Melbourne loves more than its coffee, fine food and Aussie rules football.
But one sports lover has set social media alight after being pictured enjoying an odd combination of two of those things.
Sitting in the stands at the MCG the fan ditched the traditional pie and coke, instead opting for a self-packed gourmet lunch that’s been called ‘the most Melbourne thing ever’.
Watching the Sunday afternoon clash between Melbourne and StKilda, the fan came prepared to dine in style.
While those around him dined on junk food, soft drink and beer at halftime, the footy fan pulled out his homemade gourmet lunch.
Enjoying a delicious combination of prosciutto, smashed avocado, olives, sundried tomatoes, brie and blue cheese, he was the envy of many around him.
Not missing a detail, he even packed a pair of chopping boards and a metal knife to ensure he could dine with ease.
Shared to Reddit, the photo quickly lit the social media site alight as footy fans gave a mixture of responses ranging from outrage to jealousy.
A member of the MCC, whose strict dress code and hefty membership prices often sees them labelled elitist, some said he fitted in perfectly.
‘This is so Melbourne,’ one commenter wrote, while another dubbed him ‘Mr Can Afford an Avo’.
‘If it weren’t for the logistical nightmare of this, as well as how much it would distract from the game, this seems like a fantastic idea,’ one jealous fan wrote.
‘You can tell this dude is Gen Y, can’t go anywhere without some smashed avo,’ said another.
Adding to the success of the man’s afternoon, his beloved Melbourne took a big step towards playing finals in 2017 with a 24-point victory over StKilda.
