A five-month-old baby who died while in the care of his mother’s friends had 26 bruises on his body, as well as cerebral swelling and anal injuries, a court heard on Tuesday.
Michael Smedley died in July 2012 in Alice Springs but no one has ever been charged for his death after medical experts disagreed over his cause of death for four years, according to ABC.
A coronial inquest into the death of the infant began this week.
Kelvin Currie, an attorney assisting the coroner, told the court Michael was in the care of his mother’s friends Tamara Cole and Oliver Deighton when he died.
